Most of my articles are for parents of kids ages 12–26, but this article is specifically for financial advisors.
When you’re a financial advisor who follows me, there are 3 things I know about you:
1. One of your greatest goals is to help more families.
Especially younger families—the ones raising kids ages 12–18. The more younger families you help starting early on, the more good you can do in this world!
2. You have limited time in your schedule—for sure—but you know that building relationship with these families is key.
This brief article provides a March, 2023 strategy you can use to build relationship with current and potential client families.
This strategy is free and will take you very little time—and it helps you grow your client base through kindness, generosity, and serving. (Read on for details.)
3. A key way you build relationship is by providing families free, helpful resources—and then connecting with a phone call.
A phone call that makes sure they got the resource, and then offers an appointment with you.
“A little financial health check-up,” some advisors call it. You can let the parent on the phone know that you have a limited number of these “financial health check-up” meetings available, and would they like you to reserve one for them?
This whole conversation is made possible when you’re offering a generous, helpful free resource.
Here’s a great free resource for you to offer this month.
Before you make that all-important connecting phone call, send an email that sounds like this. Feel free to use this exact wording—or tweak it any way you’d like to:
This month I’m providing parents a strategy for raising teens who manage their own money independently in a brilliant, frugal way.
This idea comes to us from Jeannie Burlowski, author of the book LAUNCH: How to Get Your Kids Through College Debt-Free and Into Jobs They Love Afterward. This strategy is good for teens, and at the same time it greatly relieves stress for parents. The best way to learn this strategy fast is by listening to an audio recording—so listen here while you’re getting ready in the morning or emptying the dishwasher! It takes about 11 minutes. https://tinyurl.com/3x6yp5ad
This is a free resource. You can extend it to your clients and prospective clients first in a kind email—and then again in a generous follow-up phone call where you make sure they got the email.
What happens if you get some kind of a college-related question you don’t have time to answer?
No need for you to answer college-related questions!
I suggest you copy and paste this into email as your reply to any college-related question:
